I am so pleased with this cover, I spontaneously applaud whenever I look at it.
It’s in the same style as the paperback for Anatomy, which is out in May and looks like this:
I sometimes get asked if I have much input into the covers, to which the answer is a straight no. I get to approve them, and if I thought there was something wrong I’d say so, but so far my reactions have been of crooning delight. I know some authors have a lot more say in their art work, for instance my poet friends often suggest or even supply their covers, but I see the cover as part of the marketing strategy for the book, and in the same way I wouldn’t send Headline a long memo suggesting how they get a novel into Tesco, I wouldn’t send them cover briefs. They know the book, they know the market and they know me, so I restrict myself to trying to get the words right. Lord knows, that’s hard enough.
